[26-Nov-2009] Residents of a uranium-mining city in Niger are exposed to dangerous levels of radiation, environmental group Greenpeace reported. In early November, Greenpeace nuclear experts performed a survey in the streets of Akokan near two uranium mines owned by French nuclear power group AREVA. Some of the areas showed radiation levels as high as 63 microSv/hour at 5cm, almost 500 times higher than normal background levels. Greenpeace has released their results to the authorities...
