Our Reaction to the UK’s EU Referendum
TheNewsMarket worked closely with leading organisations such as the IMF, the S&D Group at the European Parliament and the S&D Group at the European Parliament throughout the build up to the historic UK’s EU Referendum on 23rd June 2016. A month before, we began actively promoting content to news organisations through our content hub, www.thenewsmarket.com and dedicated Brexit Referendum page, thenewsmarket.com/BrexitReferendum, one month before the referendum – with an inclination from our clients of how the result could impact the nation. A week prior, we began to organize media interviews for our clients while simultaneously keeping in close contact with broadcasters such as CNN, BBC, ITV and The Huffington Post in order to best reflect the content available.
We prepared for the outcome independently from the result as either way we expected huge media attention on the day. Additionally, the political groups we worked alongside were prepared for either conclusion. Regardless of the expectation of the result, this was necessary to combat the high pressure and intensity of the situation and be ready for last-minute alterations on the day. We had our 24/7 media team on standby for content publication and media alerts. The surprise result also meant that we ensured a rapid response time in order to schedule interviews and project the relevant content efficiently and with the same standard of quality expected by our clients.
TheNewsMarket prides itself on its technological capabilities across a variety of award-winning platforms. We are able to employ innovative techniques that allow the user a seamless viewing experience across mobile and tablet devices. These skills can also maintain a crisis situation should it arise, as was discovered on the morning of 16th May 2013.
A client of TheNewsMarket was anticipating the release of their Q1 results when their entire corporate site crashed unexpectedly. As a result of our skills in preparation and crisis management, we were able to use our newsroom platform to re-route traffic from the client’s corporate site. This meant that the client was able to keep investors, financial markets and journalists updated with the upcoming results. We took a variety of steps in order to alleviate the situation; all communication links were re-directed to TheNewsMarket Media Center that we built for the client, at which point we enforced and rapidly scaled up our online technology in order to cope with the sudden surge in traffic as shown in our Google Analytics on that day alone.
The steps taken by TheNewsMarket ensured that our client was able to maintain its communication links on a day when constant contact for them was vital. They were grateful for TheNewsMarket’s ability to coordinate crisis management so effectively and we were glad to have assisted so successfully.
