Are You Putting Convenience Ahead of Safety?

Release Date: 04 Aug 2015
AARP Fraud Expert Shares the Four Things to Never do on Public Wi-Fi, Announces "Watch Your Wi-Fi" Campaign to Increase Awareness of Risks

Free public Wi-Fi is a convenient perk of our daily digital lives, letting us log on while on vacation, grabbing a cup of coffee or during our morning commute. But is this convenience putting you at risk for cyber scams and hacks?

An AARP Fraud Watch Network report, Convenience versus Security, found that the freedom and convenience of public wireless access may come at a cost. In fact, nearly half of those surveyed failed a quiz about online and wireless safety, while tens-of-thousands admit to engaging in online activity that could put them at risk for identity theft.

*Cybercrime cost Americans more than $800 million last year according to the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).
