In the Democratic Republic of Congo, as in much of sub-Saharan Africa, most of the population has no access to electricity. Now an innovative new "micro-substation", based on ABB's Service Station Voltage Transformer (SSVT) technology, is allowing local energy utilities to make electricity available for use in rural villages – transforming the life of those who live nearby.
