Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe Heads to Silverstone

Release Date: 17 May 2018
Super Trofeo class 2018
After less than a month from the first round held at Monza with 48 new Huracán Super Trofeo Evos on the grid, this weekend (May 18 to 20) the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe will be taking place on the 5.9 Km of the historic Silverstone track with a high level line-up. The English circuit will thus be hosting the continental series for the ninth time in ten editions of the one-make series whose anniversary is being celebrated this year. A little less than 50 cars are expected on the track and 22 teams will be participating in the event but not without some news.
Seven different crews prevailed in the two inaugural races, which demonstrated an important balance of values that will once again be one of the main leitmotifs on the fast Northamptonshire track. The first success of the season was achieved by the crew of Antonelli Motorsport formed by Giacomo Altoè and Job Van Uitert, who got to the podium also in Race 2 with a third-place finish that placed them at the top of the PRO standings, with a single point of advantage on the duo of Bonaldi Motorsport made up of James Pull and Kelvin Snoeks, who scored two second places. At Silverstone, alongside Altoè (age 17) will be the other Italian Daniel Zampieri, who will be on his return to the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe and is already a protagonist in the Italian GT Championship as well as a GT3 Junior driver of Lamborghini Squadra Corse. All eyes will also be on the new pair of Imperiale Racing formed by Vito Postiglione and the rookie Karol Basz, who won Race 2 at Monza and are now three points from the top of the ranking as well as on Kikko Galbiati and Joffrey De Narda (Antonelli Motorsport), who started the season with a third place.
With the same amount of points, the first position of the PRO-AM standings is occupied by the Scandinavian duo of Target Racing formed by the 2016 champion Dennis Lind and the twenty-year-old Swedish Simon Larsson as well as by the crew of VS Racing composed of Takashi Kasai and Philipp Wlazik, who won their first race at Monza. Behind them, with a seven-point gap, are Loris Spinelli and Juan Perez (who scored a class victory with Antonelli Motorsport).
Thanks to Monza’s double victory, Raffaele Giannoni is now leading the AM ranking. The driver of Automobile Tricolore has begun where he left off last year, that is with a victory scored during the last round at Imola and he is now determined to chase the title that he missed in 2017. Among his opponents is the defending champion Andrej Lewandowski, who is now second in the championship with a 14-point gap and will be sharing the wheel of another car of VS Racing with August MacBeth at Silverstone. However, Miro Konopka (ARC Bratislava) and the German duo of Dörr Motorsport formed by Manuel Lauck and Florian Scholze are tied on points with the Polish driver.
In the Lamborghini Cup, the Thai Supachai Weeraborwornpong  (Team Lazarus) took the first win of the season and the class leadership at Monza. Just four points behind him is the Dutchman Gerard Van der Horst (champion in the same class in the last two seasons with the Van der Horst Motorsport team), who is ahead of his teammate William Van Deyzen, who will arrive in England with a victory to his credit.
It is also worth mentioning the presence of three “ladies”. Francesca Linossi is confirmed with Iron Lynx Motorsport Lab, while Caitlin Wood will be racing with Mtech. The 19-year-old German Carrie Schreiner (winner of the PRO-AM title in the 2018 Middle East series) will be competing for the Konrad Motorsport team and will be sharing the wheel with Fabian Vettel, the brother of the four-time F1 world champion Sebastian.
The first of the two 50-minute races, with a rolling start and mandatory pit stop to be made between the 20th and the 30th minute, will take place on Saturday, May 19th at 2:40 p.m. (3.40 p.m. CEST). Race 2 will kick off on Sunday, May 20th at 11:30 a.m. (12:30 p.m. CEST). The two 20-minute qualifying sessions will be held on Saturday, whereas on Friday the day will start with free practice.
Both races can be followed in live streaming on the website: squadracorse.lamborghini.com/live-streaming and on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Facebook page: www.facebook.com/LamborghiniSquadraCorse.
