Healthcare industry must embrace digital to meet patient needs

PwC cited among vendors providing healthcare-specific enterprise data platforms and driving C-level engagement

The healthcare industry lags in its adoption of digital to meet patient needs. Analytics can be utilized to gain insight into how best to serve patients and provide them with relevant services, while virtual care technologies can provide advanced patient care. In order to evolve to keep up with a changing landscape, healthcare organizations can work with vendors to assess and implement cost-efficient digital solutions.

According to the February 2018 Forrester report, Virtual Care Enables The Digital Health Imperative, “Healthcare organizations must provide convenient and cost-efficient care to survive as healthcare becomes a digital business. But they have been slow to react to the shift from analog, leaving customers unsatisfied with digital experiences that pale in comparison with other industries.”

The report goes on to say, “Virtual care technologies offer a range of customizable options to provide exceptional care through compelling digital experiences with fewer clinical resources. Healthcare digital business leaders need to quickly develop strategic business cases for the virtual care technologies that can help them keep pace and increase customer engagement.”

In the February 2017 Forrester report, Vendor Landscape: Healthcare Analytics, Q1 2017, PwC was named a functional specialist. Noting PwC’s area of specialization, Forrester says, “Bodylogical from PwC’s DoubleJump Health is a scientific model that simulates the interplay of actions and reactions inside the human body, which can enable health organizations to be precise about how to manage, prevent, or stop the progression of illness in specific individuals.”

In the Digital Health Imperative report cited above, Forrester cautions, “Virtual care pilots often stall because of a lack of strategic planning across the organization. Virtual care that is poorly integrated with the organization’s systems of record and insight as well as care delivery processes is doomed to remain siloed and inefficient. To combat this, PwC works with providers to drive C-level engagement between chief medical information officers, COOs, and consumer experience officers to create a standard operating model and strategy across virtual care offerings.”
