Avoiding "scattered market" online with new EU guidelines

Release Date: 02 Jun 2016

The European Commission proposed today new guidelines that would prevent EU Member States from heavily regulating or banning online services like AirBnB, like Uber. The intent is to further develop Europe´s single digital market across the EU28 with a level playing field. But there is resistance. Andreas Schwab, is the EPP Group´s spokesman, on Internal Markets and Consumer Protection.

He lends his support to new EU-proposed guidelines that would prevent heavy regulation or the banning of online services like Uber and AirBnB that make up a growing "sharing economy" part of Europe’s Digital Single Market. Avoid a "scattered market" with the guidelines for a Single Market, he says.
