EPP Group Urges Governments to Use 8 Billion Euros Youth Guarantee

Release Date: 18 Sep 2013
The EPP conference on Youth Employment calls for greater engagement and funding to improve job prospects, particularly in member states hit hard by economic crisis and austerity measures. This conference is more than just making a statement about the condition of the European labour market. It's about how to get Europe's next generation to power the economy in future - not easy with youth unemployment in the EU remaining stubbornly above 20%. The numbers are staggering. The likelihood of a young employment age person being out of work is more than twice as high as for adults. The economic loss, according to one EPP Group report, is an estimated EUR 153 billion in the Member States due to the "disengagement" of young people from the labour market. Available material includes an edited package.
