FILA's Timea Babos Wins Doubles Title at the Australian Open
(FILA Global) - FILA tennis player Timea Babos has won the women’s doubles title at the Australian Open. Babos and her doubles partner Kristina Mladenovic, defeated their opponents Ekaterina Makarova and Elena Vesnina with a score of 6-4, 6-3 to win the title. Babos’ road to the finals also included a quarterfinal round victory over #1 seeds Chan Yung-Jan and Andrea Sestini Hlavackova.
This marked Babos’ first Grand Slam win after three finals appearances. She previously reached the women’s doubles final at Wimbledon in 2014 and 2016. Babos also became the first Hungarian player to win the Australian Open doubles crown. She was the WTA Finals doubles champion in 2017, with then partner Andrea Sestini Hlavackova.
In addition to her women's doubles success, Babos has reached the mixed doubles final at the Australian Open. Together with her partner Rohan Bopanna, she will play for the mixed doubles title on Sunday.
