A Record 22.6 Million Packages Expected to Ship, Driven Largely by E-Commerce

More than Double the Volume Handled on a Typical Day

This holiday season, online shopping is driving increased numbers of packages into the FedEx shipping system. A record breaking 22.6 million packages are expected to move on the company's busiest day in history, December 15.

Industry experts at comScore are predicting web sales will increase 16% this holiday season to $61 billion, including a 25% increase in sales made on mobile devices. In addition to e-commerce, retail inventory such as personal consumer electronics, apparel and luxury goods will drive the holiday increase.

To manage the extra volume, FedEx has increased its workforce with 50,000 seasonal positions and is offering an array of tools and shipping solutions that let package recipients closely manage their deliveries to ensure everything arrives under the tree on time.
