Betty Boop and FILA Team Up in Japan
(FILA JAPAN) - King Features announces its newest brand collaboration for Betty Boop with international sports brand, FILA, in partnership with FILA’s Japanese licensee, Daiwabo Advance Co., Ltd.
Betty Boop is coming to sportswear! The iconic cartoon will be featured on products of a new collaborative collection produced by international sports brand, FILA, and media group, King Features. The FILA x King Features spring line launched in late February and includes cropped, regular, and long T-shirts, as well as hoodies. Products will be sold in specialty and independent retailers across Japan. “This is a perfect integration of two iconic brands, even including a unique Betty logo modeled on the FILA insignia,” said Cathleen Titus, King Features’ vice president of international licensing. “We’re thrilled to present Betty in a new way to her Japanese fans. Particularly in Japan and Asia, Betty’s confidence, sweetness and sassiness, combined with strong image recognition, have made her very appealing for brand collaboration, not only in fashion but now in sport as well.”
First introduced in 1930, Betty Boop was created by Max Fleischer for his “Talkartoons” series, the first animated cartoon produced by Max’s company, Fleischer Studios, for Paramount Pictures. By 1932, Betty Boop had taken the country by storm. Since her introduction to television, Betty has starred in more than 100 cartoons, hit movies, television specials, and commercials. She even had her own official television series, entitled “Betty Boop,” which ended in 1939. Betty was the first cartoon character to be profiled by A&E’s “Biography” series.
