Netherlands “Skating Emperor” Sven Kramer Wins 8th Title with a 5000m Win at the 2017 International Skating Union (ISU)
(FILA KOREA) –

Sven Kramer, Royal Dutch Skating Federation (KNSB) affiliated men’s speed skating athlete, recently won a gold medal in the men’s category of the International Skating Union (ISU) World Single Distance Championships. Both Kramer and the KNSB have been sponsored by FILA for the last three years. The competition was held at the Gangneung Oval on Thursday, January 9. On the first day of the World Single Distance Speed Skating Championships, (KST) Kramer claimed the gold medal in the 5000m category, with a recorded time of 6 minutes and 6.82 seconds.
 
Kramer has now won three gold medals in a row in the men’s 5000m category of the world championships, from 2007 to 2009. Additionally, from 2012 onwards, Kramer has accomplished the prestigious achievement of winning the 5000m category five more times at the World Single Distance Championships. This brings his overall total to eight wins within the 5000m category.
 
Kramer is set to compete in the 10,000m and 15,000m categories of the competition, on February 11 and February 12 respectively. His recent victories and upcoming competitions have again increased the anticipation of a potential gold medal performance from Kramer. 
 
Fellow Royal Dutch Skating Federation (KNSB) affiliated athlete Ireen Wust, also secured a gold medal in the women’s 3000m category of the competition. She recorded a time of 3 minutes and 59.5 seconds.   
 
FILA actively sponsors the Royal Dutch Skating Federation (KNSB). The KNSB affiliated male and female players, including Sven Kramer, won medals on the first day of the competition, indicating a positive early start to the championship.
