Release Date: 05 Oct 2015
Jury Chechi at the FILA Museum

(FILA Italy) --

The FILA Museum was pleased to welcome Italian gymnast Jury Chechi to its headquarters this 29 September. During his visit, the former Olympic athlete enjoyed a tour of the Foundation's archives, and was thrilled to be a recipient of the FILA Story Book. Chechi was the champion in the rings at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, and took home third place in Athens in 2004. His third-place win in 2004 marked his attempted comeback to the sport at the age of 35 - an age that is well above average for a competing male gymnast.

Jury Chechi's domination of the rings in the 1990s earned him the nickname "The Lord of the Rings." He has won five gold and two bronze medals at the World Gymnastics Championships, with an additional four gold and two bronze medals at the European Championships.
