2014 OnStar: Disaster Awareness

Whether it's hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires or earthquakes; being properly prepared in the event of a disaster can save your life and the lives of your loved ones. But people don't always take the time or the steps to properly prepare. During National Preparedness Month OnStar is supporting the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) America's PrepareAthon!, a national campaign to increase emergency preparedness.

Community groups, organizations, schools and families are being encouraged to participate in or even plan their own PrepareAthon! on or around September 30th and learn how to be better prepared by conducting drills and exercises as well as talk about the possible disasters that could happen in their area.

Mary Ann Adams, Crisis Incident Manager for OnStar, interfaces with agencies like FEMA, state emergency managers and first responders and has helped develop emergency services such as OnStar's Crisis Assist service. She along with James Bell, GM's Head of Consumer Affairs, talk about the importance of being prepared for a disaster and offer specific advice on what people need to do.
