audio package, .mp3
SCRIPT: Zero to Sixty, I'm Brian Osuch. Besides the make and model of a car, many consumers base their decision upon a vehicle's color. And according to the 2011 DuPont Automotive Color Popularity Report, GM's James Bell says the top colors make perfect sense. CUT: (Bell) Silvers, grays… especially the gun metal gray. Those are classic colors that are always going to look good. But, interestingly enough this year, we're also seeing the color white. SCRIPT: White and pearl-white top this years list of popular colors. James, why is white the preferred color of choice? CUT: (Bell) It's a safe color to get. It's clean, easy to maintain even if it gets dirty. It hides scratches and dents really well, and it lets you to kind of well blend in the background. And if you buy a white car, it's much easier come resale time. SCRIPT: Some in the industry say Spring has already sprung when it comes to newer car colors. Which new colors can consumers expect to see this year? CUT: (Bell) Teals, oranges, yellows, reds and going forward, I think the kind of new luxury color is going to be a purple… almost a plumb or eggplant-type color.
