ANCHOR LEAD: The future of transportation was on the minds of many car enthusiasts in Las Vegas. Brian Osuch has more on what’s coming out of one of the most cutting-edge auto industry shows. (:60) SCRIPT: Zero-to-Sixty, I’m Brian Osuch. The 2013 SEMA Convention is an industry only auto show, where automobile manufactures look for new ideas for current and future vehicles. GM’s James Bell says they showcased a new idea resulting in better fuel efficiency for pickup trucks. CUT: (Bell) One was a special version of the Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, called the Cheyenne. It uses a lot of lightweight aluminums and carbon fibers and enhancements to the aerodynamics to allow it to be lighter-weight and more slippery through the air. SCRIPT: And what about the cars that don’t require the use of fuel? CUT: (Bell) You think electric car today – you think maybe a dowdy Toyota Prius. Well, that’s going to change. We have a special version of the Spark EV. These electric cars are going to be a lot of fun to drive. SCRIPT: NASCAR Driver, Jeff Gordon was even on hand to help provide a few ideas. CUT: (Bell) He has actually helped Chevrolet design a special edition of the new Chevrolet SS, which is a four-door sports car – 6.2 liter 400+ horsepower Corvette motor inside of it. And he has taken it, to make it a one-off unique car perfect for the SEMA experience. SCRIPT: For more, go to GM-dot-com. That’s Zero-to-Sixty from GM.
