Driving Support For Our Military

ANCHOR LEAD: During WWII, this major automobile company answered President Roosevelt's call for an 'Arsenal of Democracy' and provided more than $12-billion worth of material to the war effort. Today, nearly 5,000 current employees and 45,000 retirees have served their country. Brian Osuch has more. (:60)

SCRIPT: Newsbreak, I'm Brian Osuch. From programs such as the Achilles Freedom Team of Wounded Veterans to the Hiring Our Heroes program, GM does more than just manufacture cars, trucks, and crossovers. It has proudly supported the US military since 1917 when 90-percent of the trucks GM built were used for the war effort. GM's Linda Stouffer.

CUT: (Stouffer) We celebrate America's heroes in a number of ways, including our sponsorship of the Military Times Service Member of the Year Awards. We also continue to sell cars, trucks and crossovers and we're equally proud to offer the most generous military discount on our products of any automaker.

SCRIPT: The Military Times Service Member of the Year award honors a serviceman or woman in each of the services who've demonstrated pride, dedication and courage beyond what is expected. This year's recipients are U.S. Army Sergeant Steven Davidson, Master Sergeant Brandon Lambert, Hospital Corpsman First Class Maria Decena-Taylor, Ensign Stacy Smith and Staff Sergeant Jessie McDonald.
