Geneva, Switzerland, 7 March 2017 – Dunlop presented the new Sport Maxx Race 2 at the Geneva International Motor Show. The successor to the Sport Maxx Race has been developed together with Porsche in order to meet the demanding requirements for its new 911 GT3. With the first-generation Sport Maxx Race tires fitted on the previous model of the GT3, Dunlop continues its offering of specialist tires for Porsche vehicles.

“We’re delighted we had the opportunity to work with the team behind the Porsche 911 GT3,” said Martijn De Jonge, Brand Director Consumer PBU EMEA. “It gave us the possibility to deliver a tire that perfectly transfers the car’s potential to on-the-road performance.”

Dunlop has already a proven track record of latest Porsche Motorsport original fitments for the original 911 GT3, the Cayman GT4 and the 911 GT3 RS.

As the choice of the FIA World Endurance and European Le Mans Series Champions in 2016, Dunlop has played a key role in delivering inspiring on-track performances, during some of the toughest motorsport events such as the 24H of Le Mans and Nürburgring 24H. When Porsche chose Dunlop to develop a tire that would form a perfect fit for its newest 911 GT3, two requirements were made: create a tire that provides excellent performance on dry surfaces and that can deliver the ultimate track lap time.

"Dunlop developed a tire with excellent characteristics to fit our requirements. The Sport Maxx Race 2 delivers the needed performance on dry surfaces and also in terms of grip and steering precision." said Jan Frank at Porsche.

Delivering the ultimate track lap time

Renowned for their experience in GT3 and endurance racing, with more wins in the Nürburgring 24h and Le Mans 24h than any other tire manufacturer, Dunlop was able to rely on its racing experience to deliver the necessary performance.

The key to delivering ultimate lap time is grip and steering precision. By optimizing the tire’s circular shape, Dunlop was able to balance the pressure distribution across its footprint, giving the driver more feedback while cornering and improving steering precision.

Inspired by reinforcement structures that can be found in nature, the SportMaxx Race 2 features bridges in between the grooves, which enhance the tire’s rigidity. This ‘LightWeight Reinforcement Structure Design’ enables engineers to use less rubber, creating a stiffer and lighter tire while keeping the overall weight of tire at a minimum.

Outstanding dry capabilities

The newly developed Sport Maxx Race 2 is made of a unique race derived compound, a crucial element to improve high performance driving. This racing compound heats up quicker than normal compounds. This improves the friction between tire and road, resulting in extreme grip and long term performance stability when driving high performance cars.

After intensive testing on the Nordschleife in Germany and on Porsche’s proving ground in Nardò, the Sport Maxx Race 2 was approved as OE Fitment for the 911 GT3, Porsche’s track focused road car for dedicated performance drivers.
