Taiwan leads the way in the production of sustainable home products

Release Date: 12 Dec 2012
In an effort to use locally sourced sustainable materials, Taiwanese designers of home products have started using bamboo as a construction material and applying it to everyday use. Bamboo is a great alternative to other woods because it matures within 3 to 5 years rather than the 30 to 50 years that it takes for hard wood to reach maturity. Bamboo is also very adaptable and it can prosper in different climates around the world with some species growing up to 4 feet in a day. As Taiwan tries to move to a more sustainable economy green materials come from not only natural resources, but also from a combinations of creativity and technology. Taiwan's LED production, for example, sets the world's record in volume whilst production of solar powered products ranks number 2 in the world. Taiwanese designers combined these two technologies to create an award winning solar powered LED light which is water proof and pressure resistant making it easier to apply in interior design.
