Sant’Agata Bolognese/Le Castellet, June 21, 2017

On the weekend of June 23-25, the Paul Ricard Circuit will host the third of the six double rounds of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. In France, the one-make series of Sant'Agata Bolognese will be halfway through a season that until now has not failed to offer entertainment and a constant change of protagonists.

This is proved by the fact that in the PRO class the first three crews are all within only two points from one another. Thanks to the double win scored in the latest round at Silverstone, the standings lead was taken by the duo of Imperiale Racing, formed by the experienced Vito Postiglione and the seventeen-year-old Venezuelan Jonathan Cecotto. The latter is demonstrating a great talent during his first experience in the one-make series for Huracán Super Trofeos and has recently joined the Young Drivers Program of Lamborghini Squadra Corse.

Only one point behind them is the duo of VS Racing formed by the Brazilian Raphael Abbate and the Japanese Yuki Nemoto, who are surely among the most constant drivers: they got four times out of four races to the podium and are now aiming at scoring their first victory. Immediately behind them are the Dutchman  Rik Breukers and the Zimbabwean Axcil Jefferies, who are determined to regain the lead of the standings, taken during the opening round at Monza, where they scored a victory and a second place. The duo of GDL Racing is therefore taking a new challenge in the continental series, after winning the title of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East last March.

The Italian-Canadian line-up of Antonelli Motorsport consisting of Loris Spinelli and Mikaël Grenier also took a victory and a podium at Monza but was not particularly lucky in England and is now 17 points from the top of the standings. Attention will be also focused on the Russian Sergey Afanasiev (ArtLine Team Georgia), who concluded the Silverstone weekend with a third-place finish and will pair with Giorgio Maggi.

In the PRO-AM, a victory (obtained at Silverstone with Gianluca Giraudi), a second and two third class places confirmed the young Kikko Galbiati as the leader of the standings. On this occasion, the Italian driver will be racing again with Davide Roda, with whom he already shared the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo of the team Antonelli Motorsport during the two Monza races. Nine points behind them are the Dutchman Kelvin Snoeks and the Georgian Shota Abkhazava (ArtLine Team Georgia), who got their first success of the season at Monza. The duo of VS Racing, formed by the Chinese  Liang Jiatong and the German  Christopher Dreyspring,  is however still looking for a victory and is third in the ranking (with a ten-point disadvantage) but the two drivers managed to score three second places.

In the same class, the German drivers of Konrad Motorsport, Hendrik Still and Paul Scheuschner, have done well so far, by getting to the lowest step of the podium twice at Silverstone. Positive results were obtained also by the two Belgian drivers, Niels Lagrange and Pieter Vanneste, who took their first victory in the English circuit with the team Leipert Motorsport.

In the AM category, the drivers of VS Racing, Andrej Lewandowski and Teodor Myszkowski, are aiming at getting a “poker” of victories to further increase their lead. The Italian Raffaele Giannoni (Automobile Tricolore) however had a positive race weekend, during which he scored a first and a second place and will now try to reduce the 28-point gap on the Poles.

In the Lamborghini Cup, there will be a “family struggle” between the two Dutchmen Gerard Van der Horst and William Van Deyzen (Van der Horst Motorsport), who are occupying the first two positions in the standings and are divided by only seven points. Right behind them is  Carlos Sarrea (Autovitesse), who scored his first success of the season at Silverstone.

The race weekend will kick off with the two free practice sessions scheduled on Friday. The two 20-minute qualifying sessions will instead take place on Saturday morning, while the first of the two 50-minute races, with a rolling start and mandatory pit-stop, will start at 2:30 p.m. Race 2 will kick off at 1:35 p.m. on Sunday. Both races can be followed in live streaming on http://squadracorse.lamborghini.com/live-streaming.
