Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe ready to start from Monza with many novelties

Release Date: 18 Apr 2018
Lamborghini Super Trofeo Monza
The new season of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe, now in its tenth edition, will be traditionally starting from Monza this weekend (April 21-22) with a record breaking grid of almost fifty cars. This anniversary is an important milestone that coincides with the continental debut of the Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo, which already made its official appearance last weekend at Sepang in the Asian series and in the tests that took place a few days earlier on the Monza circuit. The one-make series of Sant’Agata Bolognese is ready to face the first of the six double rounds on the calendar, five of which will be held on the same weekends as the prestigious Blancpain GT Series. After the opening round of Monza, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe will arrive in Silverstone, England; then it will return to Italy, at Misano, which will host the series after five years of absence, then it will arrive in Belgium at Spa-Francorchamps, where the series will take place in conjunction with the 24 Hours of Spa at the end of July. The fifth round will instead be held at the Nürburgring, Germany. In mid-November, the Vallelunga circuit will again be home to the last round and the Lamborghini World Final, of which the Roman circuit had already hosted the first edition in 2013.
The tenth season of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe promises to be particularly rich in novelties. Besides the new partnership with the famous Swiss luxury watch brand Roger Dubuis and the debut of the new car, which is more efficient thanks to a completely revised aerodynamics (with the exclusive peculiarity of the rear "fin" positioned on the hood), the starting line-up will be characterized by interesting figures. At Monza, some 50 cars and 22 teams are expected to be on the track, including four new teams: AKF Motorsport, Iron Lynx Motorsport Lab, Micanek Motorsport and MSG Motorsport.
With regard to drivers, there will be several debuts that will continue to ensure a vital generational change. Among the various names, it is worth mentioning that of Fabian Vettel, brother of Sebastian, the four-time F1 world champion. The German (19), at his second motorsport season, will make his debut in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe with Konrad Motorsport, together with the young German Carrie Schreiner who have already conquered the PRO-AM title in the Middle East Series this year. Two will be the “ladies” on the track at Monza, among whom is Francesca Linossi racing with the new Iron Lynx Motorsport Lab team, in crew with Stefano Colombo (a driver with great experience in various GT categories at international level). For the young lady from Brescia, this will be a comeback, as she already made a single appearance in the “Super Trofeo” in 2011. In the same team there will be also the experienced GT driver from  San Marino, Emanuele Zonzini (24) with the rookie Oliver Baker as a co-driver.
As for the other newcomers, the Pole Karol Basz (Imperiale Racing) will be paired with the expert  Vito Postiglione, who is in his third year in the European series, in which he has already come close to winning the title. The 22-year-old Davide Venditti, coming from single-seaters, will debut with the same team and will share the wheel with Massimo Mantovani. Among the new faces is James Pull, an 18-year-old Englishman with previous experience in open wheels, who is ready to race with the Bonaldi Motorsport team. The Dane Frederik Schandorff and the Finn Marko Helistekangas, aged respectively 21 and 23, will instead make their debut with Leipert Motorsport. The 20-year-old Swede Simon Larsson, coming from the ADAC TCR, will race with Target Racing.
The Antonelli Motorsport team, which won the PRO title with Mikaël Grenier and Loris Spinelli last year, will have four crews. The latter driver will share the wheel with the Colombian Juan Perez, reigning champion in the Lamborghini Cup in the North American series. A second car will be for the “under-22” crew consisting of Kikko Galbiati and the other rookie Joffrey De Narda. The expert Glauco Solieri will race with Antonelli Motorsport for the first time, as well as the 17 years aged Giacomo Altoè.
Four Huracán Super Trofeo Evo also deployed by the VS Racing team, which comes at the start of Monza as one of the most structured team: in Pro class there will be Felipe Ortiz and the 2017 champion of the Italian GT Cup Championship Tuomas Tujula. And again, with VS Racing, the Pro-Am crews formed by Koller and Liberati, Kasai and Wlazik and finally Lewandowski and Necchi.
It is also worth mentioning the presence of Rik Breukers, driver of the GT3 Junior Program of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, 2017 European vice-champion and champion of the Asian series, as well as first in the GTD class standings with the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 in the latest 24 Hours of Daytona (together with Mirko Bortolotti, Rolf Ineichen and Franck Perera); the Dutchman, 19, will race with GDL Racing. On the track there will be also his compatriot Gerard Van der Horst (Van der Horst Motorsport), champion in the Lamborghini Cup in the past two seasons and 2017 class winner in the World Final. The other teams taking part in the Monza round will be: AGS Events, ARC Bratislava, Artline Racing, Automobile Tricolore, Autovitesse, Dörr Motorsport, GT3 Poland, MTech and Team Lazarus.
The weekend format remains unchanged: two 50-minute races with a rolling start and mandatory pit-stop to be made between the twenty-sixth and thirtieth minute. The two usual one-hour free practice sessions will kick off the Monza round on Friday. The two qualifying sessions (each lasting 20 minutes), which will determine the starting grid, will instead take place on Saturday morning. Race 1 will kick off on Saturday (green light at 3:10 p.m.), whereas Race 2 is scheduled on Sunday at 12:20 p.m. Both races can be followed in live streaming on the website: squadracorse.lamborghini.com/live-streaming  and on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Facebook page www.facebook.com/LamborghiniSquadraCorse.
