According to the National Fire Protection Association, there are over 300,000 home structure fires every year and American households can expect to have FIVE home fires in their lifetime with most being accidentally started by someone in the home.
Yet only one-third of Americans have both developed and practiced a home fire escape plan even though almost two-thirds (62%) of reported home fire deaths resulted from fires in homes with no smoke alarms or no working smoke alarms.
That's why to kick-start Fire Prevention Week, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) Spokesperson and active fireman Joe Molis, shares tips on the most child-friendly ways to teach kids about fire safety including creating and practicing escape plans, home inspections and locating fire hazards.
