LAS VEGAS -- The National Hockey League (NHL) today announced it has awarded Las Vegas an expansion team, which will begin playing at the T-Mobile Arena on the Las Vegas Strip for the 2017-18 season. The NHL Board of Governor's vote to expand to Las Vegas was unanimous, said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman during the announcement at the Encore resort on Wednesday, June 22, 2016. The expansion is the eighth in the league's history and the first since 1997, in which three teams were added to the league's roster.
