MEPs stand for a low-carbon Europe in Roeselare

Socialist and Democrat MEPs have reiterated their full commitment to working towards a new, sustainable energy model for Europe and support the idea of abandoning the use of fossil fuels which produce high carbon emissions. In line with the Commission proposal for an Energy Union, the S&Ds nevertheless demand further progress on specific legislation over the coming years.

In this spirit, S&D vice-president Kathleen Van Brempt has been investigating innovative way of thinking in the area of energy by visiting the city of Roeselare in Belgium, where thousands of private houses are going to be connected to a district heating system without being dependent on a gas supply or any other fossil fuels.
