FRANCE, STRASBOURG (DECEMBER 11, 2013) (SOCIALISTS AND DEMOCRATS, EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT - ACCESS ALL) 1. CUTAWAY: VARIOUS OF A ROMA CAMP IN STRASBOURG 2. ROMA WOMAN LIVING ON THE CAMP SAYING (FRENCH): "I arrived in France 3 years ago to find work. Yes it is difficult for us. It is hard to find work for Roma people " 3. CUTAWAY: ROMA WOMAN WITH FRIENDS IN THE CAMP 4. ROMA WOMAN LIVING ON THE CAMP SAYING (FRENCH): "The town hall took care of us. At the moment I am doing an internship so for me everything is going well but I don't know about the others." 5. FRANCOIS SCHULER (SOCIAL WORKER FROM THE HORIZON AMITIE ORGANISATION) SAYING (FRENCH): "We are a team of 3 social workers and a department head. Our work is really an insertion work: children go to school, parents are also in professional integration dynamics so indeed there is a certain relevant progress." 6. CUTAWAY: FRANCOIS SCHULER WITH A COLLEAGUE ON THE CAMP "Today we think that what is lacking is a coordination of practices and know-hows at a European level but also on a national level. We know that positive things have improved and have already been done for Romas but it would be interesting that a real synergy of practices would be put in place at a European level for the integration of the Roma people. " 7. CUTAWAY: ROMA CHILDREN PLAYING ON THE CAMP FRANCE, STRASBOURG (DECEMBER 12, 2013) (SOCIALISTS AND DEMOCRATS, EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT - ACCESS ALL) 1. CUTAWAY: VARIOUS OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT IN STRASBOURG (EXTERIOR) 2. CUTAWAY: VARIOUS OF THE VOTE ON THE INTEGRATION OF ROMA IN THE HEMICYCLE 3. HANNES SWOBODA TALKING TO HER ASSISTANT 4. HANNES SWOBODA (PRESIDENT OF THE S&D GROUP) SAYING (ENGLISH): "Many people complain that too many Romas are circulating and leaving the country and try to settle somewhere else. Again this is an additional reason to give a chance to people to be at home where they were born or where they are trying to live in their community." 5. CUTAWAY: CLOSE-UP ON HANNES SWOBODA'EYES 6. HANNES SWOBODA (PRESIDENT OF THE S&D GROUP) SAYING (ENGLISH): "National leaders and national governments very often – and I saw that when I visited local communities – aren't helping local authorities to do their job, they don't support them enough. But it is of course also a European issue and money from the social funds should be spent – and very often it is the only money that can be spent for Roma integration because national governments don't help them financially – but it needs a joint effort. " FRANCE, STRASBOURG (DECEMBER 11, 2013) (SOCIALISTS AND DEMOCRATS, EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT - ACCESS ALL) 7. KINGA GONCZ TALKING TO A JOURNALIST 8. KINGA GONCZ (S&D MEP, HU) SAYING (ENGLISH SPEECH): "Why do we need Roma integration? There are many reasons. On the one hand it is an economic question: we need young people and we know that the Roma population is younger than the non-Roma population in most EU countries. So we need these young people who are very well educated and who will be very well educated later on and who can be present on the labour market, who can work. We definitely need their capacities. But at the same time I think there is also a shameful Europe. There is this extremely deep poverty in some regions of Europe, regions which are clearly stating that they have fundamental rights." 9. CUTAWAY: CLOSE-UP ON KINGA GONCZ'S HANDS AND HEAD 10. KINGA GONCZ (S&D MEP, HU) SAYING (ENGLISH SPEECH): When we were working on the regulation of the next seven years multiannual financial framework, we also tried to make it clear that part of the EU funding should be also dedicated to the most disadvantaged regions, micro-regions and to the Roma who are also overrepresented in those regions." 11. CUTAWAY: CLOSE-UP ON KINGA GONCZ
