Pep Rally Kicks Off Ultimate Sports Weekend in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS - The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA) partnered with four major sports organizations to host the Ultimate Vegas Sports Weekend pep rally Wednesday, Feb. 28 on Toshiba Plaza in front of T-Mobile Arena. 

Complete with a band, cheerleaders and mascots, the pep rally revved up fans for one of the biggest sports weekends in the destination. Hosted by Fox Sports NASCAR reporter and Las Vegas product Jamie Little, the rally will highlighted the weekend events featuring a NASCAR triple-header weekend, the USA Sevens Rugby tournament, the Vegas Golden Knights hosting the Ottawa Senators and UFC 222. The LVCVA is partnered with MGM Resorts International to host the pep rally.

The pep rally featured displays, interactive activities, merchandise and tickets for the various events and will be highlighted by appearances and presentations from personalities and athletes from each sport. Fans had a chance to win VIP packages.

Sports stars appearing included: Noah Gragson, driver in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series; UFC® star Forrest Griffin and Ultimate Fighter Captains Stipe Miocic and Daniel Cormier; comedian Paul Scally and team captains from the USA Sevens Rugby teams; various event mascots; the Golden Knights drumline and more.

The weekend action continues Thursday, March 1, with the return of the NASCAR hauler parade down the Las Vegas Strip and the USA Sevens Parade of Nations at the Fremont Street Experience. The sports action kicks off on Friday and continues through the weekend with a jam-packed schedule:

Friday, March 2:

6:00 p.m. – Stratosphere 200 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race – Las Vegas Motor Speedway
7:00 p.m. – Ottawa Senators vs. Vegas Golden Knights – T-Mobile Arena

11:30 a.m. – USA Sevens Rugby matches – Sam Boyd Stadium
1:05 p.m. – Boyd Gaming 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race – Las Vegas Motor Speedway
5:00 p.m. – UFC 222 – T-Mobile Arena

Sunday, March 4:
11:30 a.m. – USA Sevens Rugby matches – Sam Boyd Stadium
12:30 p.m. – Pennzoil 400 presented by Jiffy Lube NASCAR Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race – Las Vegas Motor Speedway
5:00 p.m. – USA Sevens Rugby Finals – Sam Boyd Stadium

Las Vegas sports action only gets bigger through March as the city becomes the center of the basketball world with the Pac-12, Mountain West, West Coast and Western Athletic conferences holding their annual tournaments. All of that leads up to the opening weekend of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, which draws big crowds to watch their favorite teams throughout the destination.

Las Vegas continues to expand its sports footprint, adding major sporting events and professional franchises to its portfolio. Known historically as the world’s boxing capital, Las Vegas is home to the National Finals Rodeo, the NBA Summer League, a PGA tour stop, a second NASCAR triple-header weekend, the minor league baseball Las Vegas 51s, the Professional Bull Riders and more.

Over the next two years, in addition to the recent debut of the Vegas Golden Knights, Las Vegas will also welcome the WNBA’s Las Vegas Aces, the Las Vegas Lights FC in the United Soccer League and the Las Vegas Raiders in the NFL.
