Free Tax Preparation And Filing For Those Who Need It Most

SCRIPT: Newsbreak, I'm Brian Osuch. In an effort to help some families keep extra cash in their pockets this tax season, a group of national organizations have created a free tax service. United Way Worldwide's, Laura Scherler. CUT: (Scherler) The United Way Worldwide, along with its partners One Economy and the National Disability Institute have created the My Free Taxes partnership to provide free tax filing preparation and filing services to individuals and families that earn less than $57,000. SCRIPT: Scherler says there are two ways low to moderate income families can prepare and file their taxes. CUT: (Scherler) First, at a volunteer income tax assistance site, where trained volunteers will help them prepare and file their taxes. If they're comfortable they can also go online to My-Free-Taxes-dot-com or IRS-dot-gov for a list of places where they can prepare and file their taxes online for free. SCRIPT: Do you have any helpful tax filing tips? CUT: (Scherler) To get their refund faster people should e-file, and they should also use direct deposit.
