ANCHOR LEAD: There are two things that are certain in life and that we all dread. But at least with one, you can get an extension! Brian Osuch has more. (:60)
SCRIPT: Newsbreak, I'm Brian Osuch. It's crunch time, but if you're like most Americans you're probably waiting until the last minute to do your taxes. But all is not lost says Columnist and Personal Finance Expert, Michelle Singletary. Michelle, what advice do you have for those who haven't filed yet?
CUT: (Singletary) If you haven't filed because you owe and you don't have the money, file your return anyway. There's a penalty when you don't file your return. And pay as much as you can on that tax debt so that you also decrease the amount of money you owe the IRS.
SCRIPT: And if you need help, My-Free-Taxes-dot-com offers free tax preparation. Brad Turner-Little is a director at Goodwill Industries. Brad, tell us about the program.
CUT: (Turner-Little) It's a partnership between United Way, Goodwill, the National Disability Institute and the Walmart Foundation that provides free online and in person federal and state tax preparation and filing services for qualified taxpayers.
SCRIPT: To find out if you qualify and to learn more, visit My-Free-Taxes-dot-com. That's Newsbreak from United Way Worldwide.
