Nürburgring 24 hours: Dunlop on mission to defend 2017 title

Frikadelli Porsche - switched to Dunlop after comparison testing

• 46th ADAC 24 Hours Nürburgring takes place on 12/13 May

• Dunlop again chosen by top teams including last year's winner Audi

• Porsche 911 GT3 R on Dunlop for the first time

It's the race of the year at the Nürburgring Nordschleife: the ADAC 24h race. Dunlop enters the long Ascension weekend (10th - 13th May) as defending champion at the Eifel mountain circuit, which is nick-named ‚Green Hell‘. Last year, Dunlop with Audi won, arguably, the toughest race in the world.

Dunlop will once again be supporting the ambitions of Audi's top teams this year.

The factory-supported Audi R8 LMS of the Audi Sport Team Phoenix with the # 3 and the Audi Sport Team BWT with the # 24 will race at the 46th edition of the 24-hour race with Dunlop GT3 racing tyres.

"Dunlop is well-prepared for the 24-hour race and will come to the Eifel together with Audi as defending champion," says Alexander Kühn, Product Manager Dunlop Motorsport EMEA. "At the same time, we are pleased that we are also launching a new project this year. For the first time, Dunlop also equips various Porsche 911 GT3 Rs at the 24h. "

Porsche team chooses Dunlop

The Frikadelli Racing Team chose Dunlop racing tyres for its two Porsche 911 GT3 Rs after extensive comparison testing.  "With the Porsche 911 GT 3 R, a great driver set-up with experienced Nordschleife drivers and Dunlop as tyre partner, we have an excellent package to have a say in the battle for overall victory," says Felipe Fernandez Laser, who shares Porsche #31 with Marco Seefried, Norbert Siedler and Mathieu Jaminet. "Especially on the Nordschleife the performance and longevity of the Dunlop racing tyres are an advantage." added Laser.

In addition, a third Porsche 911 GT3 R (GetSpeed Performance) also races on Dunlop.

Dunlop supports team around musician Smudo

Dunlop is also a longtime partner of the "Care for Climate" team with rapper Smudo and former DTM driver Thomas von Löwis of Menar. The musician of the "Fantastic Four" and his team use two Porsche in the AT class (alternative fuels) at the 24-hour marathon. Their cars will be fuelled with E20 -  with 20 percent bioethanol admixture.

The American James Glickenhaus once again trusts Dunlop to provide the grip for  his highly individual prototype sports car SCG003C.  This set the fastest time in the Top 30 qualifying at the 24h race last year and took the pole position. The team reaches for the overall victory with the # 705 car and also has the title defence of the prestigious "Glickenhaus Trophy" to aim for, an eponymous award for the fastest Nordschleife pilot of the Top 30 qualifying.

Dunlop has always been a popular choice for numerous private teams competing for the class win at the Nürburgring Nordschleife. Among these entries, Car Collection Motorsport has picked Dunlop for their Audi R8 LMS. Furthermore, as Technical Partner of BMW Motorsport, Dunlop exclusively equips all 15 participants of the BMW M235i Racing Cup as well as many other private teams.

Nordschleife Proven

Dunlop is the most successful tyre manufacturer in the history of the 24h race. The 25km circuit provides a demanding test for car and tyre alike, Dunlop used the circuit during their development of the Dunlop Sport Maxx Race 2, which is fitted as Original Equipment on the Porsche 911 GT3, GT3 RS and GT2 RS.
