Both at individual and EU level, more action is needed to help fight the Coronavirus, states EPP Group MEP Peter Liese. A medical doctor, Liese argues that the EU must do more to scale up the European Centre for Disease Control with extra staff and resources. Additionally, he states that the EU should work more closely together towards establishing 'medical sovereignty´' to ensure adequate medical supplies. This would also include sourcing drugs from within Europe to avoid dependence on other countries. EPP Group Vice-Chair Esther de Lange calls for more flexibility in the interpretation of state aid rules to help companies hit by the crisis.
