NATPE 2018 (January 16-18) in Miami, is sure to be one of the most interesting and informative media markets and conferences ever.

A few years ago, we were all talking about the “Normal” of the broadcast television and video business until it was was disrupted by Facebook, Amazon, Netflix and Google (FANG). That begat “The New Normal” with newer platforms like Snap and Instagram becoming the latest disrupters and distributors, studios and curators of content.

This year, the talk will be about “The Next New Normal,” and that includes everything from Facebook Live, to ATSC 3.0, to Echo with Video, IOT, 5G, how Data influences creative, what the blockchain means to us, and the influence of VR/AR/MR everywhere, AI and voice activated devices.

The “Next New Normal” will be all about innovation and creative execution and expansion of these things and more.

Even things we’ve taken for granted are being re-examined…like over the air transmission (local TV), the use of sound scaping, and the overall user experience, (it’s not about the remote  control anymore), and who knew…even podcasting is coming back (but in a completely different way)!

That’s the launch point for the discussion at this years NATPE. The landing pad will be about predicting the future.

Join our own Frank Radice, Expert in Residence, and some of the biggest thinkers in the industry, Anastasia Leng, CEO Picasso Labs, Jesse Redniss, Chief Innovations Officer, Turner, Joel Beckerman, Founder and Lead Composer, ManMadeMusic, David Alder, CMO, Laduma VR, Jon Accarrino, Digital Executive Director KSL/Bonneville Media and Peter Naylor, Head of Sales, Hulu, for a discussion of TV and Visual Media  in the 21st Century.

You can interact with the panel on Twitter while you watch it live on Facebook, Tuesday, January 16th, from 11:15a-12:15p ET.

Also on the agenda, and one event we look forward to each year,  NATPE’s 15th Annual Brandon Tartikoff Legacy Award. The recipients are prolific executive producer Greg Berlanti (Arrow, Flash), Telemundo and NBCUniversal International chairman Cesar Conde, award-winning actress Jane Fonda (Grace and Frankie), TBS and TNT president Kevin Reilly and award-winning actor Tom Selleck (Blue Bloods). They will receive the prestigious award at a special reception on Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

“I am proud to represent Definition6/ManMadeMusic, Salon.Com, and TheNewsMarket, at a very special event” says Frank Radice. “The NATPE NXTGN Advisory Board has  invited me to join a select group of top executives, producers, and talent to participate in a high-level roundtable discussion. These leading decision-makers will meet for a closed-door discussion centering on forward-facing initiatives and guidance, with the goal of collecting information that can be distilled into positive takeaways for NATPE’s Advisory Board. All in all, this year’s NATPE is sure to exemplify “The Next New Normal.” I will be posting on social media (did I forget to mention that?) throughout the show. Plus…I can’t wait to leave chilly London for some Florida sunshine.”
