The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) takes effect on May 25, 2018 and is the most important change in  data privacy regulation in 20 years. It is designed to harmonise data privacy laws across Europe,  to  protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy and to reshape the way organisations approach data privacy.

As a leading provider of media platforms servicing hundreds of thousands of subscribers and corporate clients in Europe and around the world, TheNewsMarket and its parent company DMA Media have always taken data protection seriously so we welcome this new regulation.

TheNewsMarket and DMA Media have been working hard over the past few months to prepare for the new GDPR and comply with the EU directive – setting up a GDPR taskforce to make this transition as easy as possible for our users and customers.

With that in mind, our taskforce includes key elements from educating our staff to GDPR and how we are handling this new regulation, to evaluating all our platforms, processes, security practices, and related documentations.

The GDPR not only applies to organisations located within the EU but it also applies to organisations located outside of the EU if they offer goods or services to, or monitor the behaviour of, EU data subjects.  It applies to all companies processing and holding the personal data of data subjects residing in the European Union, regardless of the company’s location.

For this reason, TheNewsMarket has looked at GDPR compliance on a global basis, so clients both in the EU and outside of the European Union can feel confident they are provided with GDPR compliant solutions and services.
