22 October 2025 - 90 percent of German farms already use digital tools – AI adoption expected to triple in 5–10 years – Farmers rely on apps, smart storage, and predictive technology – ChatGPT used for writing and advice—with caution – Smaller farms face barriers: cost and connectivity – Agritechnica 2025 showcases future tech at the Digital Farm Center – Digital Farm Day (13 Nov): spotlight on efficiency through innovation.

As agriculture faces mounting pressure to produce more with fewer resources, digital technologies are increasingly seen as key to achieve greater efficiency while supporting sustainability. At Agritechnica 2025 – the world’s largest trade fair for agricultural machinery – the theme “Touch Smart Efficiency” reflects agriculture’s growing reliance and adoption on automation, connectivity, and artificial intelligence (AI).

From AI-powered pest traps to predictive crop protection systems, digital tools are already reshaping farm operations. Farmers are increasingly using apps to monitor weather conditions, manage inventories, and plan fieldwork. Commercial solutions now offer smart grain storage and automated documentation, while generative AI tools like ChatGPT are being explored for writing support and technical advice, though users are advised to remain cautious due to potential inaccuracies.

Despite these advances, adoption remains uneven. Smaller farms often struggle with the cost of both hardware and software, and poor broadband infrastructure continues to hinder progress in rural areas. Training and support are seen as critical to bridging this digital divide. A recent study by Continental and Innofact suggests that the use of AI in agriculture could triple over the next five to ten years. Farmers see its greatest potential in forecasting, crop protection, and administrative tasks.

Meanwhile, a rec ent Bitkom/DLG survey found that 90 percent of German farms already use at least one digital technology, indicating a strong foundation for further innovation.

Agritechnica 2025 taking place in Hanover, Germany, 9-15 November will spotlight these developments at the new Digital Farm Center in Hall 21. The new feature at Agritechnica will showcase innovations in automation, robotics, and AI, alongside platforms the speaking area, the DLG Expert Stage, which will host discussions on connectivity and data exchange. A dedicated Digital Farm Day on 13 November will explore how digitalization can drive efficiency across the sector.
