The ABCs of Summer Camp Ailments Registered Nurse Vicki Greenberg Addresses Everything From Ankle Sprains to Anxiety Attacks

Release Date: 12 Jun 2012
School's out and camp session is in! Every year, an estimated 10 million children around the country pack up their knapsacks and sleeping bags to spend time in the great outdoors. While this can be a great educational experience for many, sometimes kids can get sick, and many times, simple homesickness is the root cause.

Cuts and scrapes are the most common, followed by fractures and sprains according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. In addition to the physical injuries, there are also the emotional side effects of being away from home, family and friends.

Registered Nurse Vicki Greenberg talks from first-hand experience of what to expect when sending your little ones away, whether it is for the first time or if it's an annual ritual. She says the most important thing to keep in mind is that they'll be in a brand new environment and can be exposed to new elements that might trigger new reactions. She also shares guidance on what health information should be shared with counselors, insight into physiological reactions that can be triggered by homesickness, and tips to help someone cope with homesickness.

Available content includes soundbites from Vicki Greenberg, and B-roll.
