Learn The Risks And Get Tested For A BRCA Mutation

Release Date: 02 May 2016
ANCHOR LEAD: May 8th is World Ovarian Cancer Day, an important day to educate women who have been diagnosed with ovarian cancer on the importance of the BRCA test and how it can aid in treatment decisions. (:59)

SCRIPT: Health Care Now, I'm Melissa Rose. Screening based only on age or family history misses many ovarian cancer patients with a BRCA mutation. Heather Sulzbach, Nurse Practitioner from NYU Langone says that's why it's important for all women with an ovarian cancer diagnosis to get screened for the gene.

CUT: (Sulzbach) The American Cancer Society finds that while many people are anxious for their test results it's important for all women with ovarian cancer to be tested, since nearly half of BRCA-positive ovarian cancer patients don't have a family history of the disease. There are treatment options out there for women with BRCA-mutated ovarian cancer.

SCRIPT: If you have ovarian cancer, talk with your doctor about a BRCA test. For more information, go to myocjourney.com. That website again, myocjourney.com. That's Health Care Now from AstraZeneca. I'm Melissa Rose.
