ANCHOR LEAD: Forty-two million Americans are expected to hit the road this Thanksgiving Weekend and Brian Osuch finds out there are some things you can do to help save time and arrive safely to your destination. (:60) SCRIPT: Newsbreak, I'm Brian Osuch. Thanksgiving is one of the busiest travel days of the entire year. George Baker, OnStar emergency services manager says that's why it's a good idea to plan your route ahead of time… CUT: (Baker) We expect heavy traffic conditions this holiday season. This means your regular route may be backed up. It's wise to use a built-in navigation system like OnStar Turn-by-Turn to plan your route, which our subscribers use nearly four million times a month. Drivers can also access directions through built-in Nav systems or Apple CarPlay in newer models. SCRIPT: Baker says more than 100,000 emergency requests are made every month, and drivers need to be especially vigilant over the next few days. CUT: (Baker) Buckle your seat belt and give full attention to the road. Don't be distracted by your cellphone or fellow passengers, slow down and don't drive while impaired or if you feel drowsy. And if something unexpected happens on your trip, OnStar is there in any type of situation, whether it's helping with a flat tire or a more serious emergency, help is just a button press away.
