Continental's new SportContact 6 is a super sports tire for the high-performance segment that clearly improves on the handling, steering precision, and high-speed suitability of the previous model. To bring these improvements to the roads – with a performance boost of up to 14% in some cases – the technicians in Hanover have "reinvented" the chemical composition of the tread, the tread design, and the tire structure. From now on, 41 dimensions will be available for rims with diameters of 19 to 23 inches.
With the new summer tire, Continental is continuing its successful range of high-performance tires. The new super sports tire is particularly suited to pure sports cars such as the Audi R8 or Porsche 911 as well as very sporty vehicles such as the BMW 5 Series or Mercedes AMG. The range also includes a suitable tire for the electrically powered Tesla S. Continental expects this market segment to become increasingly popular with customers and is anticipating annual market growth of just under 10% for the various sizes of the new SportContact 6. The new high-tech tire has already received its first seal of quality: Honda has approved the tire for the new Civic Type R before its official release and achieved a lap record on the Nordschleife at the Nürburgring. Further approvals from high-profile vehicle manufacturers are in the works.
