A special European Parliament committee heard from regulators, farmers and experts to determine what reforms are needed to tackle how pesticides are approved in the EU. The panel's EPP Group co-Rapporteur Norbert Lins is calling for the EU-wide harmonisation of the approval rules. Angélique Delahaye of the EPP Group, also on the so-called PEST Committee, says the authorisation process for crop protection should be science-based, ensuring the safety of consumers as well as of farmers and their crop production.
