CAP Reform Offers Stabile Financing for Farmers and Stable Food Supply for Citizens

Release Date: 17 Feb 2014
The latest Common Agricultural Policy reforms, driven by the EPP Group, will help millions of farmers and Europe's half billion citizens enjoy the fruits of the world's best food supply chain. For decades it's been a cornerstone policy affecting the livelihood of farmers around the EU, today providing food security to half a billion Europeans. Reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) approved by parliament and due to come into force in 2015 continues the decoupling of assistance to farmers from their production – the so called, first pillar – linking payments instead in market conditions and yields as well as mandatory greening measures. The reforms are also about strengthening rural development – its second pillar – through agri-environmental measures and assistance to modernised aging or outdated agricultural equipment. Available material includes an edited package.
