Release Date: 17 Nov 2016   |   Bruxelles, Belgium
Latin American history is peppered with dictatorships and populist leaders. But democratic elections in countries like Venezuela, Argentina and Peru are signs that populism in on the wane.

However, things are looking bleak in Venezuela where the economy is in dire straits. Venezuelans are suffering from food shortages and high levels of inflation and the government’s legitimacy is being questioned there.

EPP Group MEP Antonio Tajani sees the need for the EU to be more active in boosting cooperation with Latin American countries.
