MEPs discuss how to tackle contaminated eggs scandal

Release Date: 31 Aug 2017
In August, contaminated eggs were found in over half of European Union countries. EU countries reacted by shutting down certain farms and removing contaminated eggs and egg products from supermarkets.

The EU has a food safety early warning mechanism but this does not appear to have worked effectively. MEPs want the system to be tightened up to prevent recurrences of this kind of problem.
