Syria; Climate deal; Reforms in Greece; EU Summit

Release Date: 06 Oct 2016
The European Parliament debated the desperate human rights situation in Syria. In light of Russia’s military intervention in the country, EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber said the EU needs to work out how to deal with the Russians. He was also heavily critical of links between the far-right and Russia.

MEPs also approved a major global climate deal and debated the next steps in terms of how to translate this into national commitments. They also debated Greece’s progress on reforms ahead of a possible decision to release a new tranche of loans in October. Trade, Russia and possibly Brexit are set to be key discussion points at the next EU Summit towards the end of October.
