FedEx to Have Busiest Day in History on Cyber Monday, December 2, 2013

Release Date: 29 Nov 2013
Monday, December 2, also known as Cyber Monday (and anticipated to be the biggest web shopping day of the year), will also mark the busiest day of the year - and history - for FedEx! On this day, 300,000 team members will serve as Santa's helpers, delivering millions of packages filled with holiday cheer.

The company expects to ship more than 22 million packages, up 11 percent from last year's busiest day and more than double the volume handled on a typical day. This busiest day volume increase will once again be driven by e-commerce, which is thriving globally at three to four times the rate of traditional retail buying in brick and mortar stores (source: FedEx Global Economics). Online holiday sales are expected to increase 15.1 percent year-over-year to $61.8 billion, according to eMarketer.

In addition to e-commerce, retail inventory such as personal consumer electronics, apparel and luxury goods will drive the holiday increase. To manage the extra volume, FedEx has increased its workforce with tens of thousands of seasonal positions and is offering new tools and shipping solutions.
