ANCHOR LEAD: Breastfeeding or formula? This is a question all new mothers ask themselves. Kendra Johanssen has more about a survey on what Moms think is best. (:60) SCRIPT: Newsbreak, I'm Kendra Johanssen. A recent survey of new mothers shows they aren't receiving the infant feeding information they want and need. Elizabeth Battaglino, President and CEO of HealthyWomen. CUT: (Battaglino) Only 58 percent of new moms reported receiving educational material on infant formula. While we agree that breastfeeding is best, it's important that moms receive information on both breastfeeding and infant formula. SCRIPT: Anna Greenberg, with Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research which conducted the national survey of over 1,000 new mothers. CUT: (Greenberg) 72 percent of new moms reported that they would use some formula in their first year. So what they want when they go to the hospital is to have complete information about feeding choices. 9 out of 10 new moms want the discharge bags in the hospitals that include formula. And 82 percent oppose any government restrictions on access to those discharge bags. SCRIPT: The research also finds moms would like to see guaranteed paid maternity leave and support from health care professions after leaving the hospital as a way to support breastfeeding.
