Lamborghini Racers Complete Boldest Street Race In The Asia Series

Release Date: 09 Aug 2015   |   Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia)
LBSTA 2015 - Kuala Lumpur - Draft 1
Lamborghini and Blancpain celebrated a successful weekend of racing as the first ever Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix came to a close on Sunday afternoon. Spectators and fans lined up the streets surrounding the track to witness the beautiful spectacle of a fleet of competing Huracán LP620-2 in racing colors speeding around KL.

Yesterday's thrilling action continued today as racers once again braved the narrow course. Under sunny skies, competitors took to the grid for their final outing on the track, the twin towers framing the scene and creating an iconic backdrop for a glorious day of motorsport. Conditions couldn't be better as fans greeted teams on Jalan P Ramlee in the lead-up to the starting flag.

The race began under safety car procedure, Afiq Yazid leading the grid, followed Kazuki Hiramine in second and Yudai Uchida in third. Toshiyuki Ochiai was fourth on the grid and third in the PRO-AM class.

Davide Rizzo and Anthony Liu finished first in the PRO AM class, with Toshiyuki Ochiai in second and Dilantha Malagamuwa and Armaan Ebrahim in third. In the AM class, it was Andrew Haryanto and Fitra Eri from Indonesia who took pole, with Vincent Wong and Brian Tong from Hong Kong, China in second, followed in third by Akira Mizutani and Omaccha9.

Racing proved to be just as intense and action packed as the previous day, if not more-so. The challengingly tight track and corners tested even professional drivers to their limits, including local favorite Afiq Yazid who was unfortunately unable to finish the race.

Lamborghini is visionary, passionate, and bold. The Kuala Lumpur City Grand Prix event is an excellent example of how Automobili Lamborghini are ready and willing to step outside of the usual format and to go the extra mile in creating something truly unique and thrilling for their customers and fans. A first of its kind event like the KLCGP is not only exciting for participants and spectators but raises the profile of motorsport in general, giving greater exposure to people from all walks of life.

Just as the excitement of the KLCGP draws to an end, Lamborghini, Blancpain, the drivers and teams are turning their focus towards Sentul, the next stop of the Asian Super Trofeo Asia series. The September race at the world famous Indonesian circuit will allow drivers another chance to push up in the rankings before the semi-final in Shanghai in October.
