At its latest plenary session, the European Parliament debated the next steps in the Brexit showdown. EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber said the EU remains on the side of British youth victimised by Brexit. EU Brexit negotiator Michel Barnier pledged negotiations with respect, and that the EU remains united. Parliament approved legislation setting EU-wide rules to outlaw unfair trade practices that victimise small and medium-sized firms in the food business. Parliament approved a report calling on the EU to formally suspend membership talks with Turkey as its government continues its campaign of oppression. And Parliament green-lighted a report calling for targeted sanctions against human rights offenders in Russia.
