Ombra Racing - Spa 24 Hours
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 17 July 2019. The 71st edition of the 24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps, the grand classic of endurance racing and pinnacle of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup championship, will take place on 27 and 28 July. To strengthen the crews of its customer teams in the Silver Cup class, Lamborghini Squadra Corse is adding a trio of young champions to the lineup: Giacomo Altoè, Andrea Amici and Corey Lewis.
Altoè, champion of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe 2018, will race his second 24 Hours of Spa in the Huracán GT3 Evo #555 of the Orange1 FFF Racing Team, alongside regular drivers Michele Beretta, Diego Menchaca and Taylor Proto. “I am really grateful to Lamborghini Squadra Corse and to the team for this opportunity,” commented the 18-year-old. “The 24 Hours of Spa is an iconic race, an event not to be missed. I met my teammates during the tests and right away an excellent climate was created. Now I’m focused and ready to face this new adventure.”
Amici, winner of last season’s Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia, will alternate with Arno Santamato, Gerhard Tweraser and Lucas Mauron at the wheel of the Huracán GT3 Evo #19 of the GRT Grasser team. “For years I’ve been dreaming of racing the 24 Hours,” stated the driver from Rome, “and now, thanks to Giorgio Sanna and Lamborghini Squadra Corse, my dream will come true. Racing on a legendary circuit like Spa is always really exciting, but participating in the 24 Hours is a one-of-a-kind experience. I have full confidence in the Grasser team: the tests went well and the car is really fast. I think we’ll be able to bring home a good result, and I’ll give my all to help my teammates earn valuable points in the championship.”
Lewis, winner of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America, will drive with Ombra Racing, alternating in car #12 with Denis Dupont, Dean Stoneman and Stefano Gattuso. “I am beyond excited for the opportunity to compete in my first Spa 24 Hours with Ombra Racing,” remarked the American driver. “Last year this team won the Silver Cup class, and I know we have the same goal for this year! We had a successful two-day test a few weeks back, and I think we are heading in the right direction for a solid race. I cannot thank Lamborghini Squadra Corse enough for the opportunity, and I can’t wait to get this race week under way. I plan to make the most of it!”
The competition begins on Saturday 27 July at 4.30 pm, with a record number of 72 cars entered. A full eleven Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evos will be on the starting grid, with the Orange1 FFF Racing and GRT Grasser teams lining up three cars in the PRO category.
