Have Your Candy & A Healthy Mouth Too

Release Date: 05 Apr 2012
SCRIPT: Lifestyles, I'm Kendra Johanssen. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention tooth decay affects more than 25 percent of U.S. children two to five years of age, and 50 percent of those 12 to 15 years of age. Dentist, Dr. Jennifer Salzer, says early childhood cavities are a public health concern. And with many kids eager to enjoy Easter treats, now's the time to establish healthy brushing routines.

CUT: (Salzer) Children should brush as soon as possible after eating candy and snacks. Choose oral care products designed for their stage of development. The Oral-B Stages line has products for kids four months to seven years of age that feature Disney characters and kid-friendly flavors to keep oral care fun! For tweens 8 to 12, try the Crest and Oral-B Pro-Health FOR ME line.

SCRIPT: Dr. Salzer says tooth decay is still recognized as one of the most common chronic infectious diseases affecting America's youth, and effective oral hygiene needs to be learned early on.

CUT: (Salzer) Kids often learn by example so try brushing your teeth with your children. Encourage your kids to brush in front of a mirror for a full two minutes to ensure they brush the surface of every tooth.
