When Preparing for a Natural Disaster

Release Date: 18 Jul 2013
Survey Shows 85% of Americans are Not Prepared for a Catastrophe

Natural disasters like floods, fires, earthquakes, tornados and hurricanes affect thousands of people every year, but 85% of people think that most Americans will be under-prepared in the event of a catastrophe, according to a survey by the National Geographic Channel.

A little preparation can go a long way. And no one knows this better than Jason Cameron, home improvement contractor, former host of TLC's "While You Were Out," and current host of DIY Network's "Desperate Landscapes" and "Man Caves." Jason has seen the devastation up close. Most recently, he's participated in post- Sandy clean-up, and also rebuilt the kitchen of a homeless shelter in New Jersey that was badly damaged by the hurricane.

Jason talks about the most common mistakes people make when preparing for a disaster, what you need to stock up on and what you can skip out on, and how to personalize your own emergency preparedness checklist.

Available content includes soundbites from Jason Cameron, and cutaway shots.
