ANCHOR LEAD: A recent report confirms many Americans will be able to retire one day… it just takes some time and planning to make your savings work for you in your golden years. Brian Osuch has more. (:60) SCRIPT: Financial Fitness, I'm Brian Osuch. It's National Retirement Planning Week and according to Prudential's 2014 "Planning for Retirement: The Role of 401(k)s in Retirement Income" report, retirement readiness is within reach for Americans. Prudential Financial's Bruce Ferris. CUT: (Ferris) We found that for working Americans who participate in their employers' retirement plan, if they start saving just a few years earlier – age 25 vs 35 – and continue working a few years longer – age 70 vs 65 – they can reduce the percentage of their pay they need to save for retirement. SCRIPT: Ferris says this research highlights the strength of the nation's existing retirement system. CUT: (Ferris) Prudential, and our entire industry, has made vast progress in reshaping the retirement income marketplace, and developing solutions that allow Americans to convert their savings into income once they've stopped working. We'll continue to lead the effort to educate Americans not only about the importance of saving for retirement, but also about its attainability.
